An Independent Medical Opinion (IMO) is an official medical statement provided by a private, licensed clinical psychologist. It provides objective medical evidence for veterans’ VA mental health claims, explaining the clinical link (nexus) between a veteran’s mental health condition and their military service.

What does VMHA's Independent Medical Opinion include?

VMHA’s IMO includes a comprehensive evaluation of daily occupational and social functioning, a diagnostic clinical interview with a licensed doctoral psychologist, nationally recognized standardized mental health screeners (evaluating depression, anxiety, and PTSD/trauma responses), medical and military record review, a formal diagnosis (or updated diagnosis), and an authoritative medical nexus statement.

How much does a VMHA Independent Medical Opinion cost?

VMHA’s flagship Independent Medical Opinion is a transparent flat fee of $1,795, which covers all necessary documentation and additional letters. Flexible zero-interest and low-interest payment plans are available through Affirm, Klarna, and Afterpay.

Does VMHA charge a percentage of back pay or benefits?

No. VMHA never charges or takes any percentage of your back pay or retroactive VA disability benefits. You earn your benefits, and they belong 100% to you. VMHA operates strictly on a transparent, flat upfront fee model.

How long does it take to receive IMO documentation from VMHA?

All documentation is delivered within 10 business days following your assessment with your psychologist. Priority evaluation services are also available if you need your documentation sooner.
